More than 150 students, faculty and staff learned about multiple opportunities to study abroad while attending the 全球 Programs Fair on Oct. 18 at the Lehigh Valley campus.
A ribbon cutting was held on Oct. 18 to dedicate the new 全球 Engagement Space at Penn State Lehigh Valley. Participants in the 古巴的机会 field program were required to carry out pre-trip, online assignments before venturing into the field to learn from local government experts, university faculty and National Park biologists about ongoing Cuban conservation efforts and environmental policies as they explored the biodiversity of the rainforests of Sierra del Rosario; wetlands, 红树林, forests and coral reefs of Guanahacabibes Peninsula; and farmlands of Viñales. Here the group is in Guanahacabibes National Park.
During most recent field course of CHANCE, students and teachers focused on conservation and the sustainability of select ecosystems in western Cuba. A conservation-based, service-learning project on nesting sea turtles was also performed in conjunction with biologists from Guanahacabibes National Park as part of their Research, Monitoring and Management Program.
The Penn State Lehigh Valley group of students and faculty who traveled to Puerto Rico over Spring Break stopped at a lookout before heading into El Yunque National Forest.
Students on the Ireland Spring Break trip participated in "The Building Bridges Between Backyards" conference held at the University of Limerick. The keynote speech was given by Maria João Vargas-Moniz, Ph.D., from the ISPA Intituto Universitário in Lisbon, Portugal.
